What we like.

  • The faded bezel colour is similar to that of vintage guitars of the same period.
  • The blue-red colour of the faded bezel matches vintage jeans.
  • The blue-red, commonly known as Pepsi, was shared with the blue of the 501 and the red tag of the Levi’s.
  • That the blue of the bezel had faded, just like old faded jeans.
  • I didn’t think much of it, but the 24-hour hand was unexpectedly useful.
  • The fact that the arrow on the 24-hour hand was smaller than other generations, which looked cool.
  • I liked the deteriorated lacquer coating on the dial.
  • I used to like Pilot’s Watches.
  • I liked the atmosphere when I put the watch in my hand, although there are many detailed reasons.
  • The fact that the shop I went to was well established and handled reliable products.
  • I enjoyed the conversation with the manager of the shop and felt that I wanted to buy products from this shop.

Concerns.

  • Compared to the tight fit of the current watches, the bracelet is loose, so it feels loose.
  • Water resistance is not as good as current watches.
  • The crown is small and difficult to wind up compared to other Rolex watches.

The watch has a unique atmosphere that is not found in current models and is not bothersome to me. There are various other reasons, such as the fine details and movement, but I will omit them because there are websites that explain this area in detail.
The colour on the bezel makes it a perfect match for jeans and military wear, as well as for casual styles in general.
If a strict dress code is taken into account, it would be a different watch for suits, but it also goes well with suits and jackets, which is surprising.

Shop.

I bought my GMT Master at Antique Corleone in Harajuku.

Antique Corleone has been dealing in antique Rolex and Tudor watches since the 1990s and has a great selection of watches, from collectible watches to less expensive watches that can be enjoyed as fashion items. What is good about Antique Corleone is that there are many shops that only price items based on their recent age and type, but they assess the condition of the item, and even if it has a high market value, they keep the price down if it is not in good condition, and sell items with good value at a fair price.

The watches handled by Antique Corleone are characterised by their attention to and discernment of the face of the watch, such as the dial, markers and hands, and they are all beautiful and aged watches with an atmosphere that is very cool to look at when you hold any of the watches they handle, I find myself looking at all the different products.

The conversation with the staff is also interesting and I tend to talk with them for a long time.
Because of the location, there are many fashion-related customers and the shop is fashionable, but there are also many fashionable or sharp-looking older customers.

The image of the shop is that it seems a bit high-street, but the staff are friendly and offer various suggestions and chats, and you can take your time to look at the watches.

My GMT-Master and Red Sub were selected by the manager here, and the manager’s selections are not lacking in quality, and the condition and atmosphere are excellent. The manager’s selections are always in excellent condition and the atmosphere is superb.

As an aside, many of the customers here are hobbyists, and they often talk not only about watches, but also about cars, motorbikes, vintage guitars, vintage cameras, antique furniture, vintage clothes, surfing, etc. The staff often talk about their hobbies, and I, too, often talk about my favourite things, so we end up talking more about hobbies than about watches. I also like to talk about my hobbies more than I talk about watches, but it is a long-established shop where you can have fun.
